“Entertainment connects people, celebrates our shared humanity and provokes contemplation and conversation.”

Lonnie G. Bunch III, Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution

HOLLYWOOD

Movies are part of the national conversation. The three films in HOLLYWOOD: HERO, FAMILY, and LOVE, document American cinema, explore our values and seek to spark conversation.

The films are presented on curved LED panels, which connect seamlessly to the RED CARPET and ENTRY screens. The installation features stunning immersive Atmos sound by Dolby.

By placing these modes of entertainment in conversation with one another, we can much better understand how entertainment played a key role in shaping the nation.”

Eric Jentsh, Curator, Smithonian National Museum of American History

CHILDREN'S TELEVISION

By 1960, television reached the vast majority of American homes. With that reach came a brand-new opportunity to educate as well as entertain American children.

This film explores the evolution of children's television from the 1950s to the present.
